Stella Stella O La

Stella McCartney had a great 2012! She started off by designing Team GB’s summer olympic outfits, then cleaned up at the British Fashion Awards by taking home Designer of the Year Award and Designer Brand, and she is the most searched for fashion-label according to Google’s Zeitgeist fashion labels list.

Stella McCartney, daughter of Beatle star Paul McCartney, as been involved in fashion since the early 90’s. She graduated from Central Saint Martins in 1995 getting her friends Kate Moss, Yasmin Le Bon and Naomi Campbell to model her final collection. In 1997 she was appointed Creative Director at  Chloé. Coincidentally, Karl Lagerfeld worked at Chloé before McCartney and was critical on the brand hiring her, yet on Google’s Zeitgeist list this year he ranked second, next to McCartney.

McCartney always has been proving herself and was told not to leave Chloé, and that there were no major British design houses with a woman’s name on the label that have been globalized. Well in 2001, she decided to be her own voice and created Stella McCartney in a joint venture with what was then called the Gucci Group (now known as the PPR Luxury Group). Her brand has now expanded to 21 free standing stores.

I recently watched a fantastic video of Garance Dore interviewing Stella and just had to share! I love her values and how she uses them to run the company. What a powerful woman and a great role model!
